We were born of the American Revolution where the Spartan regiment rose up from the South Carolina backcountry to fight for independence. Fierce battles fought on our soil were a turning point in our nation’s struggle for freedom.

The industrial revolution forever transformed our community. We became a center of manufacturing built on an ethic of hard work and quality. From the textile industry we inherit the progressive legacy that lives on to this day.

Not just a place of factories, our rural communities continue to innovate and thrive. This one county once produced more peaches than the entire state of Georgia and today we remain a center of farming whose products feed our fast growing region.

We’ve revolutionized our economy going full circle back to our independent spirit, our commitment to hard work, and our unique location in the South. We are the welcoming home to a collection of international companies unrivaled in scale and scope anywhere in America.

Our location makes us a hub of activity.

Our lives revolve around our rich cultural offerings, our extensive educational opportunities, our musical heritage, our racing legacy, our food, or the simple abundance of our stunning landscape. We continue to be the crossroads of all that is dynamic about the modern South.

Here are some interesting facts about Spartanburg we bet you didn’t know.

• During July through August each year, the Carolina Panthers train at Wofford College, allowing fans to get up close to the team.
• The Marshall Tucker Band, a Southern rock band, was formed in Spartanburg in the early 1970s. They have made 27 albums and several hits.
• Every X3, X5 and X6 is made here. 
• Celia Weston is a native of Spartanburg and has starred in more than 40 productions, including movies, Broadway, and television shows.
• “Sleeping With the Enemy,” starring Julia Roberts and Patrick Bergin, was filmed partly in Spartanburg.
• The television station WSPA, which serves the Spartanburg area, was the first station in South Carolina.
• The Spartanburg Downtown Airport was the first airport in South Carolina.
• Spartanburg is known mostly as a textile area and has several historic mills and mill districts.
• Spartanburg is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
